Recommended Annual Services for Every Pet

If we do not discuss the following services with you on your visit, we are not doing the best we can for your pet. While you may decline our recommendations, understand that they are based on years of scientific research, education and experience.

A Physical Examination and Complete Health History

Depending on lifestyle, breed, health and age, we may recommend exams twice a year.

Vaccines

The science of vaccines is continually changing. The Ellicott Team stays on top of these changes and recommends the safest and most complete vaccination protocols available:
Image
  • Rabies - For all dogs as required by law
  • DHPP - Every 3 years for adult dogs
  • Leptospirosis - Annually for dogs
  • Kennel Cough/Bordetella - Annually to twice per year, for dogs who go to kennels, dogs parks, groomers
  • Lyme/Borrelia Burgdorferi - Annually. A growing concern for dogs who go into high grasses, woods or urban parks

  • Rabies (non-adjuvanted) - For all cats annually, required by law
  • FVRCP - Every 3 years for adult cats
  • FeLV - Annually for cats with many housemates or outdoor cats
Every pet is different, and pet’s and owner’s lifestyles and risk exposures change. We will work with you yearly to select the vaccination plan that meets your pet’s needs.

Blood Work

  • Pre-operative blood work for any surgery including spays or neuters
  • Annual blood parasite testing in dogs for exposure to 4 insect borne diseases (Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis)
  • Annual early detection screening for older pets, used to identify and manage diseases before they become a problem

Year-Round Parasite Prevention

  • We recommend year-round internal parasite control for all pets that go outdoors. Several common parasites can infect a pet in any season and can also cause disease in humans.
  • External parasites are easier to prevent than treat. Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and black flies are not only a nuisance, they carry serious diseases.
  • For pets who do not receive year-round parasite prevention, we recommend annual fecal testing.
If we fail to meet these expectations, please let us know.
