A Millennium of Pet Care in Dog Years
1880-2023
Not everybody gets to celebrate their Millennial Birthday! In 2023 Ellicott Street Animal Hospital celebrated their 1000th Dog Year of care.
Founded in 1880 as a horse hospital for the hard working powerhouses of the Washington Street Farmers Market, the hospital has cared for the pets in WNY for 143 years or 1000 years in dog years!
Dr. Baker founded the hospital as one of the first in the region. The McCelland family partnered with Dr Baker and then ran it for 80 years, followed by Dr Joe Bruzgal. Dr. Reed Stevens took over the practice from Dr Frank Yartz in 2006.
All have all been a part of their proud history of leaders in the WNY veterinary community. They are very pleased to continue that legacy in serving pets in the region. Dr. Stevens’ extended family has been taking their pets to this hospital for 5 generations.
In 2014, Ellicott expanded by opening the West Side Pet Clinic to provide low-cost, high quality care that focuses on basic pet care needs of the underserved pet population of our city.
In Summer 2023, Dr. Stevens is partnered with Dr. David Gurzak to open the North Buffalo Animal Hospital at the former Elmwood Animal Hospital at 1606 Kenmore Ave. Like Ellicott, North Buffalo will be a full-service practice caring for dogs and cats from all over WNY.
